Dáire Priest: “We want to break the monopoly in Ireland!”

After a looong wait Daire Priest agreed to share with us some of his opinions…
Q: After your great start this season we called you potential title challenger. What happened next? What are your expectation for the rest of the season?
D.P: We had a great start to the league with a victory over YFU in the 1st game, a few results didnt go our way in the lst few weeks but come the end of the season we want to be up there fighting with the rest of them. We finished 4th in our first season as a team and that was fantastic and i dont think people expected that, so we dont want to be one hit wonders. We want to be at fighting to break the monopoly in ireland

Q: Hoops seem to be in great shape right now, It’s looking like you need to prepare something special for this game. Are you going to play different on this match? (planing any surprise?)
D.P: We have been going over there last few games, hoops v pats have always been exciting and i hope this game will be entertaining to the fans and that our fans are the happier going home. I might have a few surprises up my sleeve but thats a secret

Q: “Youth team is a luxury”. Impossible not knowing that Cormac Ireland told this, he said it hundred times. You seem to have a pretty succesfuly one…
D.P: My beleif is that st pats have one of the most promising Youth teams, so many great players and they will be even better in a few seasons time, an era i am very much looking forward to. It is a luxary to have a youth team but we feel we must compete on every level and plan for the future at the same time

Q: Do you think one day one of those players will be able to lift the championship trophy for ST Patricks?
D.P: I think that is very much the case, Its exciting times in richmond park, we are planning on developing the youth team even further, as long as there is still new irish lads becoming avalible ill be doing my best to convince them to become a saint

Q: About this “Dual nationality” thing, we saw that you are for lowering the term. Arent you worried that too many foreigners would mean fewer irish playing at the highest level, causing the weakening of the NT’s?
D.P: I dont think thats the case atall, cormac already said that it would be virtually impossible, but we have to look at expanding ireland as a whole, we have a very active forum, probley the most active in the world. We are constonly getting visitors from abroad posting, i think we can use how active we are to our advantage to attract players and managers to make ireland and even more competitive place to play
